John Martin Bush was born 14 February 1895 in Greenup County KY and died in October 1936 in a car accident in Gary IN where he had been working in a steel mill. He was buried in Meridian Cemetery in Otsego County MI. John, along with his family, was listed on the 1910 census in Chandler Township Charlevoix County Chandler Hill MI. John Bush enlisted, or was inducted, in Cheboygan MI, 24 June 1918 at age 23 and 1/2 into the Army as a Private into the 85th Div World War I 340th Infantry. He served overseas in France with a departure date of 23 July 1918 and return date of 2 April 1919. He arrived in Romsey, England, 17 August 1918 and went on “The Tedious” and returned on the “Leviathan”. He was involved with the Meuse and Moselle sectors of France. His discharge on 22 April 1919 was from Camp Custer MI. John was issued a bronze “Victory Button”.
