PURPLE HEART FOR PETOSKEY

Members of Chapter 1988 Military Order of the Purple Heart on Monday presented to the city of Petoskey a purple heart flag and plaque at city hall. Mayor John Murphy accepted the items on behalf of the city. In December, Murphy made a proclamation at a city council meeting that Petoskey is a Purple Heart city, which encourages citizens to show appreciation to purple heart recipients. “The City of Petoskey is honored to be acknowledged for our support of the men and women who have sacrificed for our country and have received the Purple Heart Medal. We will proudly display the plaque and fly the Purple Heart flag August 7th each year in their honor. We have much to be thankful for their service to all in defending freedom and our way of life,” Murphy said. The plaque presented to the city reads: “The Military Order of the Purple Heart Special Recognition Award is bestowed with pride to the City of Petoskey, Michigan, for your dedication and support honoring America’s Combat Wounded Veterans becoming the Purple Heart City.
